Willow Class

Welcome to Willow Class

Willow class is taught by Miss Miller. Mrs Martin is the teaching assistant.

Each half term, the class will be set a homework project linked to their curriculum theme. In order to make maths fun and enjoyable, we will also send a maths fluency fact sheet home for the term, which gives the opportunity for children to spot mathematical patterns, make mathematical connections and speed up their calculation skills. They will also have a list of spellings for the term. All of the letters, which contain this information, are recorded on this page under Willow Curriculum Information.

P.E. will be on a Tuesday, however due to current Covid guidelines, we currently are asking children to come to school in their PE kit daily. Wherever possible, please make sure your child comes to school in their full school PE Kit. Please ensure that long hair is tied back and that if your child cannot take out their own earrings that they are taken out before school. We will be trying to get outside as much as possible.

Your child has been given an independent reading book to read at home, which is suitable to their word recognition and comprehension skills. They should record their reading in their reading records.

This Term's Theme: Anglo Saxons and Vikings

Our Learning Journey for summer term 2 is: Anglo Saxons and Vikings

Our theme for summer term 2 begins with a History focus.

In History we will be learning about the British settlements of the Anglo Saxons and Vikings. We will be looking at key themes in this topic such as: leadership, conflict, religion and society. During this term we will be learning about where the Vikings came from and where they raided, how the Vikings got here, what the Viking warriors were like, who King Alfred the Great was and what life was like living in Viking Britain.

Our key texts for the term is the book ‘‘The book eating boy’ and ‘the creature’. We will be looking at comic writing in the book eating boy and how to show comedy in our writing. During the creature, we will be creating a newspaper report.

In maths this term in Elm and Sycamore we will be carrying on developing our understanding of geometry and then we will move on to measuring mass and capacity! We would love for you to encourage having a go at looking at different mass! In Willow class we will be looking at statistics and then we will move on to geometry.

Our topic this term in Science is called ‘It’s electric!’. We will be investigating what electricity is, electrical safety, what an electrical circuit is and identifying what conductors and insulators are. During PSHE we will be looking at changing me. This is a topic about ourselves and how we change over time.

In RE we will be investigating ‘belief through art’. We will be looking at how beliefs can be portrayed through art and music and how they represent different symbols in the religion. In ICT we will be looking at ICT hardware. In PE, we will be looking at the health and fitness cog, which will teach us how to be healthy and how to use equipment wisely and safely.
