Willow Class

Welcome to Willow Class

Willow class is taught by Mrs Ash. Mrs Liverton is the teaching assistant.

Each half term, the class will be set a homework project linked to their curriculum theme. In order to make maths fun and enjoyable, we will also send a maths fluency fact sheet home for the term, which gives the opportunity for children to spot mathematical patterns, make mathematical connections and speed up their calculation skills. They will also have a list of spellings for the term. All of the letters, which contain this information, are recorded on this page under Willow Curriculum Information.

P.E. will be on a Monday and a Friday, please make sure your child comes to school in their full school PE Kit. Please ensure that long hair is tied back and that if your child cannot take out their own earrings that they are taken out before school. We will be trying to get outside as much as possible.

Your child has been given an independent reading book to read at home, which is suitable to their word recognition and comprehension skills. They should record their reading in their reading records.

This Term's Theme: Volcanoes, Mountains, Earthquakes/Extreme Earth

Our theme for Autumn Term 2 begins with a Geography and Design Technology focus.

In Geography we will be exploring how volcanoes and mountains are formed and where they are located in the world. We will also be looking at where tectonic plates are located and what causes earthquakes to happen. In Design Technology, we are going to be using techniques to explore levers and linkages and how they are used.

In writing, we are going to be focusing on creating a non-chronological report based on Earthquakes. This will enable the children to explore non-fiction and build on the skills and knowledge that they already have. We will then further develop our non-fiction writing with an explanation text using ‘Street Beneath my Feet’. In Maths this term we will continue to develop our Addition and Subtraction skills and then move onto Multiplication and Division later on in the term. Within our Science topic this term we will be investigating ‘States of Matter’. Through careful observations, experimentation and asking questions we will be learning all about solids, liquids and gases. During PSHE we will be focusing on the unit ‘Celebrating Differences’, We will be looking at how words can affect someone’s feelings and what the consequences are and give and receive compliments and know how this feels.
