Saplings Class

Welcome to Saplings Class

This year, Saplings Class will be taught by Miss Owens, with Mrs Houghton supporting the children.

PE lessons will continue to take place on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child arrives at school wearing their PE kit on this day. A gentle reminder that as we are in winter, layers will be needed to keep your child warm. All items of clothing need to be named.

The children in Saplings class will be accessing the reception outdoor area each day. Again, as it is now getting colder outside, please ensure that your child is coming into school with the appropriate clothing for the weather. We would also like the children to wear a pair of wellies whilst using some areas in the outdoor area. Please provide your child with a pair of named wellies that they can keep in school if you have not already done so.

You should have already received a reading record to record any reading or sound practise that your child completes at home. Your child will be bringing home a ‘Book for Enjoyment’ which is swapped on a Thursday. This is a book that should be read to your child by an adult at home. They will also be bringing home a ‘Blending Book’. These are books that can be read by your child to an adult.

To find out more about what your child is learning at school, don’t forget to sign up to the Interactive Learning Diary where you can view photos and videos of your child whilst they are at school. Please speak to Miss Owens if you require another copy of your login details.

Summer Term 1

This term, we are embarking on an adventure into lots of new and captivating themes! I am really excited for the children to immerse themselves in their learning, nurturing their curiosity and broadening their understanding of the world through exploration and investigation.

Week 1 - Planet Earth

Week 2 - Vehicles

Week 3 - The Royal Family

Week 4 - Inventors

Week 5 - Bees

Week 6 - Let's Investigate!

Our Maths curriculum kicks off this term with an exploration of 3D shapes. We will then move onto focusing on numbers to 20 and beyond. Here the children will be looking more closely into numerical patterns in the counting system. We will them round of the term with a focus back on shape, where the children will be exploring how we can manipulate, compose and decompose different shapes.

In our PSHE unit this term we will be exploring ‘Relationships’ where the children will identify the people that are important to them in their lives. With a strong emphasis on friendships, we will explore the impact of unkind words and learn strategies that we can use to be a kind friend to others.

Thank you for your continued support and please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the Foundation Stage Team if you have any questions.
